With my best friend’s big forty-tenth birthday coming up, we got together with a couple of other friends to plan a luxury break in lovely surroundings and sunshine and absolutely nothing else. No sightseeing, no work, no long car trips, no trekking trips, just relaxation and self-indulgence, especially in the swimming pool and Spa. We discovered what we were seeking is the Denia Marriott La Sella Golf Resort & Spa *****.
The Denia Marriott La Sella is very easy to get to, as it is mid-way between Valencia and Alicante, so finding flights was easy. When we arrived at the hotel, the building with its pillars and arches, the frontage with stunning fountains and greenery, the pool, olive trees, palm trees and golf course were so picture-perfect. We were really looking forward to lounging in and out of that pool, cocktail in hand, some holiday reading, sun and shade … what a prospect!
The reception is in a large space with cool patterned tiled floors, soft lighting and pretty wrought-iron, wicker and wood furnishings. Primrose yellow and deep indigo blue touches of colour on a neutral background looked very fresh and attractive. Our rooms were big with views overlooking the pool and golf course. Some beautifully embroidered pillows and bedspreads looked sumptuous. In our room, décor of sunshine yellow, and a sunburst-patterned mirror on the wall, gave a feeling of vitality and freshness, perfect mood-making for the carefree days ahead.
Over the next few days, we simply lived the dream. The pictures of lounging by the pool became reality. We treated the Birthday Girl to a facial, massage, manicure and pedicure in the Spa and she was over the moon with the experience. We had promised ourselves a total relaxation no-sweat holiday, but couldn’t resist a couple of trips to the gym, which has all the equipment you could wish for. Birthday lunch was in the Brasserie Montgó on the out-door terrace. It was followed later in the day by dinner in the new Segària Thai Restaurant where we enjoyed a spicy Thai dining experience.
Trips to the beach are a must to complete the picture-perfect holiday. Las Albaranas beach in Denia is simply perfect, with the sparkling clear water and pristine stretches of white sand that dreams are made of. The dreams continue into the evening around Denia, where there are lots of lovely little bars and restaurants, and bustling beachfront markets for local souvenirs.
We will surely not forget the Denia Marriott la Sella Golf Resort & Spa. Next time one of our group of friends has a birthday with a zero in the number, we will be back!

BY PLANE
The hotel is strategically placed between Valencia and Alicante airports, both near equidistant and located an hour or so north and south, respectively, from the hotel. Valencia Airport receives flights from many capitals and major cities across Europe, but Alicante Airport is much better served, receiving flights from regional cities in UK, Scandinavia and Germany.
HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL
- By Taxi: it is also possible to take a taxi to the hotel. This will however cost about 135€ one way.
- By Car: Considering the rather large distance between the hotel and the airport we advise renting a car. this will be quickest and most cost efficient way to get to the hotel, especially if taking a family holiday.
From Alicante Airport, take the AP-7/E15 towards Alicant/Benidorm to exit 62 for Denia/Ondara. After paying the toll, travel 4 km in the direction of Denia and exit at La Xara/Hospital. Pass through La Xara and the hotel will be on your right.
From the Valencia Airport, take the AP-7/E15 towards Alicante/Gandia to exit 62 for Denia/Ondara. After paying the toll, travel 4 km in the direction of Denia and exit at La Xara/Hospital. Pass through La Xara and the hotel will be on your right.
