Córdoba is an elegant city that wonderfully characterises the Andalusian region. It is every inch a boiling-pot culture, where many of the Roman structures were reconstructed during the Islamic era, and many of the Islamic structures were repurposed as Christian hundreds of years after their creation. Thousands of years of this curious recycling and merging of culture gives the city the unique and beautiful atmosphere it possesses today. The newly opened H10 Palacio Colomera**** is a part of this vast historical tapestry - you’ll be staying in a modernist palace built in the twenties.
Islamic Spain is well-preserved in Córdoba. Marvels of Moorish architecture are to be found across the city, alongside classic Roman and Christian structures. The resulting dynamic is curious: the Roman Bridge as it stands today is, in fact, the result of Moorish redesigns, and the huge Roman Catholic Cathedral that looks remarkably like a Mosque was, in fact, a Mosque. Even then, the architects looked back toward the city’s Roman legacy in erecting Romanesque columns in the space. This constant cultural flip-flopping of the city’s structures over thousands of years reflects both its complicated history and the diversity of it.
The Casa Colomera is a beautiful modernist palace built in 1928 by the architect Félix Hernández Giménez. Created for the Counts of Colomera, it is something of an icon of Plaza de las Tendillas. It, too, looks to the city’s history; as one’s eyes wander to the top of the building, the otherwise typical balcony-laden style is suddenly offset by two highly-detailed Orientalist peaks, utterly divorced from modernism.
The H10 Palacio Colomera****, an all-new hotel, has carefully reworked the building to its former glory. Upon entering, you’ll be struck by the gorgeously restored Andalusian atrium, with its ivory tones, marble surfaces, and ornate detailing - including Romanesque columns and exotic plants. The rooms themselves are decidedly modern. These chic spaces opt for a calm design that embodies the fuss-free-yet-elegant nature of the hotel at large. All the amenities you’ll need during your stay are ready and waiting, including Smart TV, free Wi-Fi, and laundry service.
The hotel boasts a plunge pool in its patio area for you to splash about in, stunning gardens, and a restaurant in the atrium, where you can enjoy tasty continental breakfast buffets. There’s even a café for when you get peckish during the day. Make your way to the top floor for spectacular panoramas of the city from the lovely terrace, perhaps considering your plan for the day as you look upon the plaza below. Make the most of the brilliant and dynamic Córdoba with a stay in the heart of the city, at the all-new H10 Palacio Colomera****.
