Boscolo Hotel ★★★★★

A reviving city at the crossroads between East and West.

By Craig Laird, VeryChic correspondent
At the crossroads of many cultures – Hungarian, Austrian, Turkish – the city of Budapest is where east meets west in Europe. What I love about this city is that you can feel the middle-European atmosphere as soon as you arrive; and although the city may be littered with heavy reminders of wars gone by, it’s currently undergoing something of a renovation, bringing the positive glory of its past back into the spotlight. The best example of this is the former New York Palace, build in 1894 by the New York Life Insurance Company as their local head office. Following a dramatic facelift in 2001 by the Boscolo group, the space has since become one of Budapest’s most stylish hotels, complete with the historical and very trendy New York Café. I’d made my mind up; this was the only place I wanted to stay while I discovered the history of the crossroads city.
