I hadn’t been feeling all that lucky. The weather in London was looking like it was never going to perk up, my daily commute was getting harder to bear, and I was having a particularly difficult time at work. So I decided to treat myself to a well-deserved and much needed getaway. For the perfect combination of sunshine and luxury, there’s nowhere better than Crete. And there, my luck changed: I had arrived at the Daios Cove Luxury Resort, a gorgeous retreat on the Cretan coast!
From the moment I saw all the magnificent beaches drenched in sunshine from my window on the plane, I couldn’t wait to explore Crete and the coastal town of Agios Nikolaos. I confess, this was my first visit to Crete, and I was already bowled over by its beauty. Formerly a traditional small fishing village, Agios Nikolaos is now a fashionable seaside destination (the jet set know all about it). Immersed in the changing views as we drove along, I was already falling under the spell of the Cretan way of life. Hypnotised, I gazed out at a lovely private bay and grandiose green hills. We had arrived. Welcome to the Daios Cove Luxury Resort.
I was speechless. It’s really quite extraordinary. This very contemporary five-star establishment sits in harmony with its natural surroundings; a true architectural feat. A little way off, the private beach beckoned me with its sun loungers, bar, and inviting, crystal clear waters. Inside the lobby oozes sophistication: Grecian marble, and designer furniture draped with fine, luxurious fabrics.
Spacious and bright, my bedroom was perfect too. The entire space was bathed in soft golden light and there was a bathtub in the luxurious bathroom. I was in heaven. And to top it all off, there was the superb sea view in the distance. Here is a luxurious five-star establishment that lives up to its name!
For lunch we decided to visit the Taverne, one of the numerous delicious dining options at Daios Cove Luxury Resort, serving up all kinds of scrumptious local specialties. Admiring the view over the bay, we decided on cocktails to try in the evening. After a long, leisurely lunch, we discovered the gorgeous lido and couldn’t resist diving right in. We enjoyed every single second of our time at the Daios Cove Luxury Resort, and I felt thoroughly lucky by the end of our stay!

BY PLANE
The main airport in Crete is Heraklion International Airport (“Nikos Kazantzakis”), located 65 km, around 1 hour's drive, west of the hotel. It receives flights from many capitals and major cities across Europe in high season. Out of season, indirect flights are available via Athens.
You can take a taxi when arriving at the airport or rent a car. Having a car can be useful to explore the island during your stay, and the hotel provides free parking. It is around an hour's drive from the airport to the hotel.
