The Mercure Istanbul The Plaza Bosphorus ***** hotel is ideally located in the centre of the city, close by to the business center and the most well known shopping centers of the city. The hotel also offers a gorgeous view of the Bosphorus straight.
PLANE
Istanbul currently has two airports: Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST), on the European side, is the city's main international airport, and Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW), on the Asian side, is a newer international airport.
Ataturk Airport airport is located around 24 km (15 mi) west of the city centre and 44.9km from the hotel (approx a 41min drive). We recommend flying to this airport as it is a little closer to the hotel, and receives more direct flights from many more destinations in Europe, operated by a number of different airlines.
Sabiha Gökçen Airport, is located around 35 km (22 mi) southeast of the city centre. It also receives a number of flights from cities across Europe, mostly operated by Turkish Airlines and Turkey's low cost Pegasus Airlines.
TRAIN
Istanbul is well connected by train, with trains to Istanbul departing from all major cities across Europe and Asia. Trains from Europe arrive at Sirkeci (note that InterRail tickets are valid in istanbul but only on the European side and not in the Asian region).
ADMINISTRATIVE FORMALITIES
To enter Turkey passports should be valid for no less than 6 months from the date of arrival.
Visas to Turkey are required by all US, Canadian, British, Irish, Australian, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese nationals, amongst others. We recommend you consult your closest Turkish embassy or click here to confirm if you are required to obtain a visa for travel to Turkey.
Tourists and business travellers should apply online through the E-Visa system here and pay the requisite application fee. It is recommended that you apply before you travel. You can obtain a visa on arrival however the fees may be higher.
