A walk about Paris will provide lessons in history, beauty, and in the point of life, said Thomas Jefferson. I concur. There's nothing more fabulous than walking down Parisian boulevards, in any season. So, when my husband surprised me with two tickets to Paris and a long weekend at Le Grey Hotel ****, I was naturally over the proverbial moon. Set in a perfect spot for exploring the sights of Paris, this boutique hotel captures something of the sophisticated essence of 'The City of Lights'.

  • Au Lapin Agile is a tiny little cabaret theatre and bar in Montmartre. It's famous for being the favourite haunt of Picasso and Matisse, back when they had to pay for their tab with their art work. It hasn't changed much since then décor-wise, but also in that it's still a hub of creative activity.

  • Musée Albert Kahn showcases the ambitious vision Kahn had at the dawn of the twentieth century to photograph the entire world before it was irrevocably changed. Employing intrepid photographers and using the cutting-edge technology of the time, his immense collection houses some rare glimpses into cultures that have all since vanished.

  • Soul Kitchen is a new little bistro run by three female cooks. The décor and ambience is accordingly feminine and pretty, with a vintage and arty flair. It's a casual café with an emphasis on proper home-cooked dishes crafted from local organic produce. Perfect for lunch when in Montmartre.
