ADMINISTRATIVE FORMALITIES
A passport which is valid for at least 6 months after your scheduled return date is required.
Citizens of most European countries, including the United Kingdom, are eligible to enter the United States for business or tourism, under the Visa Waiver Program. In this case, you must apply for the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to boarding your flight to the United States. For more information, or to apply for your ESTA, please visit the official ESTA website.
It is recommended to apply at least 72 hours prior to travel. The ESTA is valid for up to two years and allows for multiple entries of up to 90 days each into the United States (if you receive a new passport during the two-year period, you will have to reapply for your ESTA).
BY PLANE
New York is currently served by two main international airports. Between them they receive international flights from around the world, including major cities across the UK and the rest of Europe.
- John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) sits about 12mi / 20km southeast of Lower Manhattan.
- Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) sits about 15mi / 24km southwest of Midtown Manhattan, in New Jersey.
From the airports to the hotel:
- From JFK Airport: if taking a taxi, be sure to take a licensed taxi from the designated rank and remember to factor in a 15% tip. Alternatively, take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station, followed by a train to New York Penn Station, about 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
- From Newark Airport: if taking a taxi, be sure to take a licensed taxi from the designated rank and remember to factor in a 15% tip. Alternatively, take the AirTrain to Newark Airport Railroad Station, then the NEC train to New York Penn Station, about 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.
From Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays and French bank holidays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
