The tropical tableau of Zanzibar is one that dreams are made of. Sitting just off the coast of Tanzania in the wash of turquoise blues that is the Indian Ocean, it’s a vision of palm trees, white sands and striking sunsets. This is a place to come for peace, for leaving reality behind and for moments of utter bliss. Nestled in the beautiful Chwaka Bay, Michamvi Sunset Bay is aptly named indeed. Looking out to the western horizon, this boutique hotel channels simple serenity for a soothing stay you’ll long to relive.

The Michamvi Sunset Bay **** welcomes you to a beautiful setting on the sheltered Chwaka Bay, along the eastern coast of Zanzibar. It is sits on a white-sand beach surrounded by mangrove forest.

BY PLANE

  • Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) sits about 5km / 3.1mi south of Zanzibar City, and about 67 km / 42 mi / 1 hour and 30 minutes' drive from the hotel.

    The airport welcomes some direct flights from Europe. Otherwise, fly indirect via one of those, or for example, via Tanzania's capital, Dar es Salaam, or Nairobi in Kenya.

ADMINISTRATIVE FORMALITIES

  • Visa requirements:
    Citizens from most countries required a visa for entry into Tanzania. Citizens from the UK and countries in the EU may obtain single entry tourist or business visa upon arrival at the airport in Tanzania, however, it is recommended to obtain one in advance from your nearest Tanzanian Embassy. The following are required:

    • a passport valid for at least 6 months after the entry date
    • a completed visa application form and payment of the visa fee
    • 2 passport size photographs (if applying in advance via an embassy)

    Vaccination recommendations / requirements:
    Most travellers are recommended to be vaccinated against Hepatitis A, Tetanus and Typhoid before travel to Tanzania. And, although not listed as a Yellow Fever endemic country, Zanzibar immigration officials may ask to see a Yellow Fever vaccination or exemption certificate upon arrival from the mainland.
