Sintra - the Moon Hill, is cloaked in mystery and magic, where there is a symbiotic relationship between nature and man, for this, UNESCO has granted it World Heritage Site status. Take a stroll through the narrow alleys, and on the main square sits the Vila Palace, with its distinguishing cone-shaped chimneys. It was here that many kings spent their summer months in the late 14th century. We recommend climbing to the mountain top for captivating views over the area, enjoying a picnic in Castanheiros Park, and appreciating the floral aromas from the botanical sanctuary of Pena Park.
There is much to do and see in Sintra, and you cannot escape without tasting the exquisite cheesecakes known as queijades, or the delicious almond pastries called travesseiros. Rosegarden Kitchen prepares wonderful house wraps, salads and sausages that you can enjoy outdoors on the terrace in a quiet ambience, wrapped in green. Just around the corner, you’ll find the heated outdoor pool, where you can lie out on the sun terrace and enjoy the calm.
zp>We stayed in one of eight exclusive rooms at Rosegarden House, as sweet as the hotel name sounds! The décor was colourful and warm, elegant and refined. From the lime green wooden panels to the golden wallpaper, splashed with flowers, to the warm lavender coloured bed throws, we thoroughly enjoyed sinking into our roomy double bed every night. Breakfast was fulfilling and continental. The staff were wonderful, we asked for gluten free options at breakfast, and they were more than accommodating.
The hotel itself is a canvas of art, everything is thoughtfully decorated and ornamental. There are two cosy rooms to relax in, like the fashionable library, the leatherbound books and antique furniture taking you on a journey back through time. Outside, listen to the peaceful chirping of birds! You are away from the city centre, so you can enjoy peace and quiet at Rosegarden House, ideal after a day of long walks.
