Les Jardins d'Argane

Exclusive tranquillity in the culture-rich Essaouira.

By Melanie Webb, VeryChic correspondent
In a land not so far away, African, the East and European mix into a beautiful blend of visual colours, strong incense and bustling streets. This is Morocco. This time we focus on Essaouira, away from the modernisation of the popular Marrakech, Essaouira is a traditional town of artisans, anglers and sailors with a medina that has been a World Heritage site since 2001. The area is a fantastic combination of relaxing countryside, complemented by a bustling port medina and beautiful beach. Surrounded by exciting leisure activities like quad-biking, kite-surfing, camel and horse-riding, the landscape offers a little something to all. Here is where the peace garden of Les Jardins D’Argane waits for you...

HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL

  • - Hotel transfer: The hotel offers a transfer service to and from Marrakech Airport at a rate of 65€ / £55 (4 people maximum) or to and from Essaouira-Mogador Airport for 15€ / £11 (3 people maximum).

    - By taxi: Grande Taxis will take you to Essaouira from Marrakech airport during the daytime only. The trip takes about 3 hours and could cost you anywhere between 450dh and 1000dh (41-92€ / £30-70), depending on your bargaining skills and other factors such as the season or simply the mood of the driver (haggling is an art in Morocco and taxi drivers often go about it fairly aggressively).

    - By bus: Alternatively, we recommend that you take a taxi to the Supratours bus station, located right around the corner from the train station (‘gare de trains’) in Marakech city centre. Supratours (run by ONCF) offer cheap bus travel to Essaouira for 70dh (6.50€ / £5) per person, plus around 5dh extra per bag. There are four buses a day and it takes around 3 hours to get to the centre of Essaouira, right in between the Bab Sbaa and Bab Marrakech entrance to the Medina. From there you may take a taxi out to the hotel.
