View all offersFirst things first, to the bedroom! Romantic and intimate, it’s fitted out in a style that fuses the classic with the contemporary. Think white walls and wood panelling, extraordinary comfort and just the amount of luxury we were searching for. While some have a view on the park, ours is blessed with a view over the sea.
It is out in the park we find the most inviting little nooks and niches for lounging away the afternoon. Half way between Sorrento and Herculaneum, the hotel and its garden overlook both Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. Just picture it: behind us, the classic 19th-century villa, all around us, fruit trees and fragrant flowers, and before us, the Gulf of Naples sprinkled with pleasure boats chugging towards the Island of Capri. I have to pinch myself. And in the middle of it all there’s a space for fitness and relaxation, where guests can relax or exercise, all while enjoying the benefits of fresh air and lush vegetation.
There’s another treasure in this garden of colours and aromas, beckoning us in to sit a while and enjoy a cool drink, the pool bar. Here, the white of the flowers blends into the white pillows, while the earthy tones of the sofas perfectly match the green of the trees; there’s a pleasing coherence to the simplicity of the design that belies a great deal of attention.
Great attention is paid to the wine too, and once those first Italian flavours hit your palate, you’ll find it hard to resist an evening meal in the hotel’s restaurant, Donn'Eugenia. Dish after dish appears in a parade of Mediterranean flair. While the textures and flavours vary, the one thing they all have in common is elegance and picture-perfect presentation.
Our search for the perfect romantic corner also took us to the Eden Spa, where the very name casts us in the role of Eve and Adam, together in our secret garden. The spa facilities include a Finnish sauna, a steam room, a hydrotherapy pool, an emotional shower to stimulate your senses, a fitness room and even a massage and treatment room.
La Medusa Hotel & Spa **** is therefore much more than just a pretty face. It’s a cocoon, a treasure chest of greenery and calm, to which couples from the world over can retreat for a few days of blissful recuperation.
