Nestled in the north-eastern corner of the island amongst lush, tropical vegetation and silky soft beaches dotted with Australian pine trees is the Domaine de Grand Baie. An overabundance of exciting activities awaits you, along with a soul soothing spa and pools. You can look forward to a tranquil escape, high-end services and the freedom to travel the island by car, all from the alluring Domaine de Grand Baie.
Picturesque villages in the north, tea plantations in the south, and mountains in the centre that inspired the novel ‘Paul et Virgine’, by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, Mauritius has a lot to offer and the Domaine de Grand Baie is ideally located to explore the island in all its colours. A good option is to rent a car from the hotel to explore to island. Our Nissan Micra drove us from the charming Grand Baie to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Morne Brabant, to the Black River Gorges lush rainforest in the south.
Our modern, air-conditioned studio apartment had all the mod-cons we needed for a comfortable and secure stay back at the resort. The soft, pastel tones and natural materials reflected the outdoors and emitted a sense of warmth and homeliness. With a bathroom, living room, bedroom and kitchen, complete with an outdoor terrace looking onto the green surroundings, we didn’t want to leave our new home.
Indulge in rich food at the resort, a unique blend of both local and international flavours from across the globe, including Creole, Mauritian fried noodles and chutney. Le Grand Baie invites you to its calm, contemporary venue, with large windows overlooking the pool, or you can dwell outside amongst the birds, hibiscus and bright pink bougainvillea vines. A weekly happy hour at the lounge bar was perfect for a laid-back aperitif or an old Mauritian rum.
There was an ample choice of activities to choose from, ideal if staying for a long vacation. We woke the inner artist in us and participated in art workshops, improved our flexibility with yoga sessions and enjoyed boat trips over the azure waters. The Sothys Spa was heavenly, with stellar rejuvenating treatments, a hammam and sauna, to cleanse the body and mind. A warm herbal tea was the cherry on top to end a relaxing spa day.

ADMINISTRATIVE FORMALITIES
Visitors from many countries, including the UK and countries in the European Union, do not need a visa to enter Mauritius for tourism purposes. On arrival, your passport will be stamped allowing entry to the country for 60 days. You’ll need to be able to provide evidence of onward or return travel. (Visitors from a number of other countries can obtain a visa for tourism purposes upon arrival in Mauritius).
Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. No additional period of validity beyond this is required. It should have at least one blank passport page.
BY PLANE
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) is located around 48 km / 30 mi southeast of the capital city, Port Louis. It is around 68 km / 42 mi (1 hour 5 minutes') drive from the hotel.
It is the main international airport of Mauritius and does receive some direct flights, regular and seasonal, from major European cities, including from the UK. Alternatively, it may be necessary to fly indirect via, for example, Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
