Illustrious luxury at the top of the Three Valleys

Exceptional
9 /10
By Esme Fox, VeryChic correspondent
The Three Valleys is the world’s largest ski area, lying within the French Alps along the border with northern Italy. It’s linked together by ski runs and lifts and comprises 600km of interconnecting slopes and 180 ski lifts. Within this area are eight world-class ski resorts – Courchevel, La Tania, Meribel, Brides-les-Bains, Saint Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires, Val Thorens and Orelle. Of these Val Thorens is one of the best: it holds the title of the highest resort in Europe at 2,300 metres above sea level, and is surrounded by six glaciers and six mountain peaks. From here you have access to 320 sign-posted runs and around 174 ski lifts. With excellent snow quality and perfectly groomed slopes, Val Thorens suits skiers of all ages and abilities, and offers everything from Alpine skiing and cross-country skiing to snowboarding, telemarking and snowshoeing. Here, perched right at the top of the resort with stunning views over Val Thorens, sits one of the most luxurious hotels in the area – the five-star Koh-I Nor.
