Appartements Chics Cannes

There are many reasons why I love Cannes, whose reputation as the most stylish seaside destination in France is legendary. I like telling my colleagues that I’m going to the South of France on holiday, so that they can imagine me sauntering down the Croisette and booking into a five-star luxury hotel. Also, I love packing for trips to Cannes: all you need are sunglasses, dresses and sandals! And lastly, Cannes expertly blends sparkling glamour and the typical charm of the South of France with its Provençal markets and traditional bistros.

When we arrived in the town’s little streets, not far from the beaches and markets, I could immediately sense the holiday spirit that gave Cannes its renown in the 19th century. Following the example of Lord Brougham (who had the sublime Villa Eleonore built here), upper-class English folk and the Russian aristocracy came to build their magnificent second homes. On a magnificent bay with sandy beaches and lined with old mansions and luxury goods stores, Cannes is charming, captivating, and blessed with seemingly eternal sunshine. For me, it’s always the same routine: you hop on a plane on the Friday morning in the London drizzle, and arrive in Cannes for lunch with your feet in the sand. It’s a lovely, refreshing break that I’d recommend to you all!  

Still, Cannes also has a reputation for being among the most expensive towns in France. Holidaying here can seem impossible, especially with your family. Unless you entrust yourselves to VeryChic, that is! This time, we booked ourselves into a smart and well-located apartment, perfect for those who are looking for a refined alternative to a hotel.

In the heart of Cannes, and just a short walk from the Croisette, the beaches and the rue d’Antibes, we were delighted to discover a modern and comfortable apartment. Tastefully decorated, the accommodation was spacious with a fully-equipped kitchen, two bedrooms, bathroom and the latest technology. You’re definitely in Cannes, but in your very own home sweet home. It’s the perfect pied-à-terre for exploring the town.

The following morning, I went to the Forville market with my traditional straw basket to stock up on fresh, local food. Then, just a short walk away, I wandered through the Allées de la Liberté market, which sells flowers during the week and is a flea market at the weekend. Then it was time for a coffee (or perhaps a glass of rosé). For that, you can choose between the little streets of the Suquet (the oldest part of town) or the deckchairs on a private beach. I’ll admit, I do like strolling down the Croisette, admiring the yachts, mansions and luxury stores and finishing with a pastis on the Place de l’Etang, where you can watch the boules players battle it out in the sun.

After an Italian lunch at Vésuvio (a Cannes institution), I waved my husband and children goodbye as they left to visit the Lérins islands. I was going shopping, because Cannes is made for fashion-lovers.  Although designers and famous jewellers line the Croisette, the shops on the rue d’Antibes are much more affordable.

I was laden with bags when I got back to our cosy apartment at the end of the rue d’Antibes, and ready to prepare my family a traditional French supper. On the menu that evening: Provençal stuffed tomatoes (shh, I bought them at the market!).
