There are some places that seem to have a special knack for hanging on to their yesteryear charm. These holiday hotspots safeguard their identity through the ages and are known today as destinations where charm, elegant architecture and a kind of nostalgic ambiance reign. Arcachon is one such place. With its toes trailing in a pool of the same name, between the ocean and pine forests, the town maintains an air of repose and tranquillity, a genteel atmosphere and charming Victorian flair. This area remains, to this day, a wistful seaside town with excellent family hotels like the four-star ResidHome Arcachon Plazza.
From the outside, it was everything I had imagined. Immaculate, angular, oozing quaint character from its rounded balconies, smart bricks and red tile roof... The archetypal Arcachon style encompasses a little of this and a little of that, a touch of the neo-medieval, a shade of Paris's Haussmann and the odd dash of a Swiss chalet or an Art Deco palace. The entrance hall is just as imposing and luxurious, definitely a full-fledged hotel reception. The photos aren’t deceptive, our apartment is worth every one of its four stars. Contemporary, spacious and fabulously well equipped.
Our little family settles in and I busy myself exploring our exclusive space, noting that every detail exceeds my expectations. As I gaze out at the sensational views from the terrace, I picture a relaxing afternoon on the beach, walking across to the giant Dune of Pilat. I've heard so much about the vast pool, its isle of birds and its famous houses on stilts that standing here with it all before me almost feels like coming home.
The week almost seems to plan itself; oyster tastings cut with walks in the pine forests and relaxing strolls through the streets of Arcachon before spending the evenings together as a family. The ResidHome Arcachon Plazza is the perfect addition to this picturesque scene, our own cosy home between the dunes and the sea.
