The hotel’s elegance immediately became clear to us as we arrived in a spacious reception area with a striking modern sculpture in the lift entrance area. Windows looked out over pretty gardens, populated with statues and lights as well as greenery; I found this was a real treat for a city-centre hotel, to be able to stroll in the fresh air and quiet before breakfast. The Superior Room was modern and well-equipped, the main feature being (besides the stunning views over Grand Square) a long sofa placed underneath the window, so that you could recline while admiring that fantastic view. Our bathrooms were also top-quality, with walk-in rain showers, fluffy robes and slippers, and some lovely Bigelow toiletries.
Our first stop after dropping off our bags was the Panorama Lounge, where we sat and chatted over a drink, admiring the view and taking advantage of the snacks and fruit constantly on hand. Speaking of food, it needs saying that the breakfast was excellent - my son stocked up on sorely missed bacon and eggs while I had a delectable combination of fresh fruits and pastries.
Of course our long weekend would not be complete without some sightseeing and night life, my son introducing me to some traditional pub-type bars to try some world-renowned Belgian beers. Here I was thinking he spent all his time studying! I managed to persuade him to accompany me to one of my all-time favourite art galleries, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Belgium. And of course we spent happy hours strolling through the little streets around the Grand Square – always a new café or chocolatier to discover!
Altogether pleased with our few days break, I'm happy with my friend’s recommendation of The Hotel Brussels **** and more than happy to carry the torch!
