A dreamy Dordogne escape.

Near the town of Bergerac, in the heart of the Purple Périgord, the fine wine area of the Dordogne, lies a hidden gem. Set in 12 hectares of parkland, with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, is the lovingly restored 17th century building that is now the delightful hotel, La Chartreuse Du Bignac, and undoubtedly one of the best places to stay in the region.

Saint-Nexans

France

La Chartreuse du Bignac hotel is nestled in the south west of France, in Saint-Nexans, a village near Bergerac in Aquitaine. The area is known for its fine wine, some of the best in the Bordeaux region.

BY PLANE

  • Bergerac Airport (7 km) is the closest airport, located just a 15-minute drive from the hotel, it receives regular flights from Southampton and London, as well as seasonal flights from Bristol and Liverpool, as well as elsewhere in Europe.

Given the hotel's proximity to the airport, it would be most convenient flying there with a layover in Paris or Amsterdam if there are no direct flights from your city. From there, the 15-minute can be arranged by contacting the hotel for a surcharge.

HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL

  • - By taxi: taxis are available outside the aiport terminal, the journey will take 10 to 15 minutes and will cost 15€ to 20€.

    - By airport transfer service: avaialble to and from the airport for a surcharge.

    - By car: from Bordeaux: take the N230 toward E70/Lyon/Périgueux/Bergerac/Libourne and take exit 26 toward Libourne/Artigues/Moulinat/Yvrac. Turn left onto N78 and stay on that road for around 18km. Continue onto A89 for another 64km. Take exit 13 toward Bergerac/Mussidan. At the roundabout take the second exit onto D709 toward Bergerac. From there it is another 30 minutes before you arrive in Saint-Nexans. We highly recommend using a GPS since the way to the hotel includes many roads among villages with few indications.

    GPS coordinates: 44.793351, 0.562578

BY TRAIN

  • Bergerac train station is only 13km from the hotel and has regular trains coming in from Bordeaux. Book tickets on SNCF. There are taxis available at the station but we do recommend booking one in advance. The 20-minute taxi ride should cost between 25€ to 30€.
