PalazzinaG ★★★★★

A chic Venetian palace of glass and glamour.

By Rhona Pearce, VeryChic correspondent
Venice! The name is synonymous with romance and instantly we picture gaily painted gondolas gliding down a maze of canals that lead from tiny, intimate streets to the wide aquatic boulevards lined with opulent palazzos. Yet Venice doesn't rest on its watery laurels: it is a hip, happening city full of young artists and buzzing with modern creativity. For a true taste of both of these worlds book a stay at the Palazzina G Hotel, an exclusive secret for those in the know, combining the timeless romance and ancient architecture with stylish, contemporary comfort.

HOW TO GET TO THE HOTEL FROM THE AIRPORT

  • - By Ferry: Take the Orange Alilaguna line, and get off at Sant'Angelo. From here, it is a five minute walk to the hotel. Walk away from the Canal and take a left onto Corte Albero. Take a right on S.Marco, then a left on Calle Locatelli, going down the stairs. Turn right onto Salizzada San Samuele, and continue on Calle de le Carrozze. Turn right onto Ramo Grassi, and the hotel will be on the left. Consider buying tickets online first. http://www.alilaguna.it/en/

    - By Boat Service: Minimum two people for this shared boat service: boats often wait for up to forty minutes to fill up. It will stop at every hotel destination required by other travellers, but is quicker than the Alilaguna public service. Prices at 27€.

    - By Private Water Taxi: If you have a lot of luggage, or are travelling in a large group, consider a private water taxi, which will deposit you and your bags at the front of the Palazzina. These can be booked on arrival at the Consorzio Motoscafi Venezia desk in the Arrivals Hall at Marco Polo. The hire charge includes up to 4 passengers and all their luggage. Extra passengers up to the limit of the water taxi (12 or 16) carry a very small surcharge - the official rate is €1.60. If the Consorzio Motoscafi Venezia desk is closed you can walk to the landing stage and hire a private water taxi directly there. There are usually several waiting to be hired. You should not have to pay more than €80 - 120 for the launch, depending on how far you are travelling.
