Splendor Hotel

A magical address in the 17th arrondissement

By Lizzie Davey, VeryChic correspondent
With the swish of a wand I found myself in the depths of an altered reality here in the romantic Paris.  Magnificent illusions. Beneath the red, velvet curtains a magician waves his black and white wand, taps a tall, upturned top hat three times, and removes a fluffy, white bunny from its depths. Test your senses. The illusion will bring about strange and mysterious sensations. A magician holds out a pack of cards, searching for an unsuspecting participant to accompany him into the forays of the unknown. But, perhaps the most awe-inspiring magic is the Hotel Splendour itself, decked out in a flurry of hearts, spades, clubs, and diamonds, and a levitating atmosphere that evokes divine magic, trickery, and fascinating illusions.

Chic idea: to make the most of your time in Paris, book your tickets in advance for a wide range of activities, here.

BY PLANE

  • Paris is served by three main airports: Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), located 25 km (16 mi) to the northeast of Paris, Paris Orly (ORY), located 13 km (8.1 mi) south of Paris, and Paris Beauvais (BVA), around 85 km (53 mi) north of Paris (near the city of Beauvais).

Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris Orly receive flights from most capitals and major cities across Europe. Meanwhile, low-cost airlines (notably Ryanair), operate flights to Paris Beauvais from many cities across Europe.

HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORTS TO THE HOTEL

  • From Paris Charles de Gaulle airport:
    - By taxi: Taxis are easily found outside each terminal, be sure to take an officially licensed taxi from the rank. Fares vary depending on traffic, but expect to pay between 50 to 65 euros.

    - By train: This is generally the most cost-efficient method. The airport connects to the city via Line B of the RER; take the train to Gare du Nord. Then switch to the metro system and take the M14 (dark purple) for 1 stop to Barbès – Rochechouart, change here for the M2 (blue) to Monceau. Tickets are 9.75€ or 6.85€ for children (4- 9).

    From Paris Orly airport:
    - By taxi: Taxis are easily found outside each terminal, make sure to take an officially licensed taxi from the rank. Fares vary depending on traffic, but expect to pay between 30 to 40 euros.

    - By train: The airport is connected to RER via the ORLYVAL bus service. It will drop you off at the RER station Anthony, from which you can take Line B to Châtelet Les Halles, change to Line A to Charles de Gaulle – Étoile. From there switch to the metro and take line M2 (blue) to Monceau. The combined journey costs around 11.65€ and 5.80€ for children (4-10).

    From Paris-Beauvais airport:
    - By train: Take a taxi (around 11€) or shuttle bus (around 4€ per person) to Beauvais station, then take the TER line 19 to Paris Gare du Nord. Finally take the metro line M14 (dark purple) for 1 stop to Barbès – Rochechouart, change here for the M2 (blue) to Monceau.

    - By bus: More conveniently there is a shuttle bus which runs to Porte Maillot in the city. From there, take the metro line M1 (yellow) to Charles de Gaulle – Étoile, and change to line M2 (blue) to Monceau.

BY TRAIN

  • Most international trains arrive at either Paris Gare du Nord or Paris de l’Est. From either station take metro line M14 (dark purple) to Barbès – Rochechouart and change for the M2 (blue) to Monceau.

From the UK is it possible to book via Eurostar, otherwise Thalys or TGV operate from other neighbouring counties and elsewhere in France.

METRO

  • The closest metro station is Wagram, served by line M3. From here, it is a 4 minute walk to the hotel. Take a right down Rue Jouffroy d’Abbans, and then an immediate left onto Rue Meissonier. At the end, take a left around onto Rue Cardinet. The hotel is to the right on this road.

Also nearby is the metro station Monceau, served by line M2 (blue). From here, it is a 5 minute walk to the hotel – with the park behind you walk up Rue de Prony and take the third right onto Rue Cardinet.
