While the New Hotel Bompard**** might seem a world away from the bustle of the city, tucked away as it is in its verdant gardens, it’s deceptively close to the centre of Marseille and within walking distance of the main attractions. Wander to the Old Port and down to the fish market on Quai des Belges to smell the sea air and see the catch of the day be brought in. Explore the beautiful local beaches - this wild coast, connecting Marseille to Cassis, is a delight for hikers. Although, if you’d rather explore the coast in a gentler fashion then take a day cruise up to Cassis passing idyllic coves and turquoise bays en route.
After a day of sightseeing, the New Hotel Bompard**** is a cosy and relaxing place to come back to. Enjoy a dip in the azure pool, surrounded by deckchairs and parasols in a deep navy mirroring the deep waters around Marseille. However, if it’s not the weather for a swim the bar is a cosy alternative, and equally relaxing. A typically British bar the décor is reminiscent of early twentieth century London with wood panels on the walls and little lamps. Settle down on one of the Victorian chairs and soak in the atmosphere.
The simple but refined menu of the Albert Cafe offers mouth-watering Mediterranean cuisine; guests are invited to savour fresh, seasonal delights like gazpacho, followed by a sword-fish steak and rounded off with my favourite, café gourmand: an espresso accompanied by a selection of mini deserts. It could be said to be a metaphor for Marseille - lively and moreish with something to suit every taste.

- Don’t miss the fish market in the old port. It is a staple of daily life in Marseille and the best place to find fresh fish. Every morning fishermen sell the day's catch and also fish caught at night such as red mullet and sea bream. Quai des Belges, Vieux Port.

The New Hotel Bompard **** is located a short bus ride to the south of the Vieux Port in Marseille, just behind Notre-Dame de la Garde Basilica.
BY PLANE
Marseille-Provence Airport (25km/ 16mi) is the closest well-served international airport, located 15 minutes drive south of the hotel, it receives flights from many capitals and major cities across Europe.
HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL
- By taxi: A taxi from the airport to the hotel will cost in the region of 60-70€ (70-80€ at night).
- By bus: The Navette Marseille shuttle bus operates every 15- 20 minutes, taking 25 minutes to get to Marseille’s main railway/bus station, Marseille Saint-Charles. A single ticket is around 8.20€ (5.80€ for ages 12-25, and 4.10€ for under 12’s) or 13.10€ return.
- By train: The free Airport Train shuttle bus departs from the airport (outside Hall 1) ten minutes prior to every scheduled train departure (taking 5 minutes to get to the station). From there direct trains (operated by the SNCF) take between 20 and 30 minutes to arrive at Marseille Saint-Charles. Tickets cost 4.90€ or 2.50€ for ages 4-11 and 3.70€ for ages 12-25 (excluding rush hours).
How to get from Marseille Saint-Charles station to the hotel:
Either take a taxi directly to the hotel or take the metro line M1 (blue) for two stops down to Vieux-Port Hotel de Ville. From there take bus No. 61 to Bompard – Beauieu, 500 metres from the hotel.
BY TRAIN
Marseille’s main station, Gare Saint-Charles, is served by France’s high-speed TGV network. It is therefore possible to arrive by high-speed train with companies such as TGV, Thalys and Eurostar, from various countries across Europe like the UK, Netherlands or Germany (as well as other cities in France).
