View all offersThe Savoyard-style chalet is a large imposing building made with grey stone and wooden balconies, blending in harmoniously with the dramatic mountains that surround it. The ground floor is a complex of shops where you can find anything ski-related. The design uses natural materials and faux fur in a nod to its environs, with rich colours and sleek furniture.
Our room was spacious, with wooden beams across the sloping ceiling and wooden-panelled walls. It had a cosy and rustic feeling, but the designer's edge was in evidence too. Bright splashes of red contrasted well with the light and dark shades, and a beautiful large abstract piece of contemporary art hung above the bed. From our wooden balcony we could see over to the mountains beyond.
We went to the hotel's lounge bar for a pre-dinner drink. A log fire, surreal and beautiful, flickered behind glass, adding to the sophisticated and friendly atmosphere. We moved over to the restaurant, where traditional French dishes are served with flair.
The Avenue Lodge ***** kept all of us happy during our stay. The spa facilities were fabulous, and the pool area was stunning, like a star-lit Nordic lake. I became one of the Brits that calls this a favourite destination!
