Elegant contemporary design in a sympathetically renovated hôtel particulier

Exceptional
9 /10
By Siena Morrell, VeryChic correspondent
For the French, the name Marignan recalls triumphant memories of François I’s decisive victory over the Swiss Confederacy in 1515. The Hotel Marignan, however, evokes no such grisly history; rather, designer Pierre Yovanovitch has spectacularly reworked this grand townhouse, striking a harmonious balance between respecting the architectural heritage of the building and creating a vibrant, contemporary atmosphere with bold statement furniture. Though the area is more Hermès than H&M, this hotel is so discreet that nobody will notice if your oversized sunglasses aren’t Chanel.

  • Not just during PFW but all year round, the ultimate destination for beautiful people-watching is the restaurant at Ralph Lauren, rather uninventively named Ralph’s. Recline on comfortable sofas under large shades in the garden, or enjoy the gentleman’s club ambiance in the wood-panelled dining room. The peanut brittle popcorn alone justifies a trip, but you cannot go wrong with this menu. Make a reservation or expect to queue if you’re a nobody. • It wouldn’t be the City of Light without seeing the sun rise at the Trocadéro. To do that, it helps if you’ve been up all night. Showcase, under the Pont Alexandre III has a less stuffy door policy than most Parisian nightclubs, but don’t dress down: this is where champagne-toting young professionals come to unwind. With an excellent range of live music and DJ sets, the atmosphere is electric. Tel.: +33 1 45 61 25 43 - www.showcase.fr/ - Port des Champs Elysées
  • Nothing beats the candle-lit twenty-four hour terrace at Hotel Costes, another excellent destination for celebrity spotting. Buzzing music creates a laidback vibe, and the waiters and waitresses masterfully understand discretion: decorated in dark reds and boasting an exclusive hotel scent, Costes is undeniably sexy.
