Cascade Wellness & Lifestyle Resort ★★★★★

I felt like I was in the heart of Africa rather than Southern Portugal. Well, not quite, but that was the vibe that my suite was going for. Understated decorative touches, in some cases so subtle you could almost miss them, are what give the rooms here their distinctive character. Asia, Africa, Europe, South America – the décor is based on the continents explored during the Age of Discovery, a beautiful theme which remains elegant and sophisticated, never gimmicky.

Beyond the palm trees and enormous swimming pool that sat outside our window, twinkling invitingly in the fierce sun, the landscaped gardens of the 38 hectare site extended right up to the cliff tops. Below, a typically idyllic Algarve beach lies in wait - the glittering ocean so revered by locals (and tourists, of course!) is a constant temptation and delightful refuge from the soaring temperatures. Whether it’s succumbing to the charm of the swimming pool that teases you from your panoramic balcony, or a visit to the spa which promises that ‘true beauty comes from within’, there is always somewhere to switch off and recharge the batteries.

Relaxation means different things to different people; for me it means amazing food! The Senses restaurant stood out, with chef Luís Batalha and pastry chef Kristof Deschuymere creating a deliciously synesthetic experience. The gentle tinkling sounds of the light jazz, the views over the Atlantic from the spacious terrace, the smells of the sea air mixing with those emanating from the kitchen, the immaculate presentation of the food – all combined to really tickle the senses. In its gastronomy, just like everything else, the Cascade Resort offers so much to see, do, experience and, most of all, discover: a stay here is sure to be your very own Age of Discoveries.
