Abba Granada ★★★★

Modern luxury in one of Spain’s most charming ancient cities.

By Edward Fairbairn, VeryChic correspondent
Cutting edge modern style, thousands of years of history to discover, top facilities and four star luxury… The Abba Granada is an absolute gem set just outside, but within walking distance of the fascinating centre of Granada. Do not despair at the name, there is no relation to everyone’s favourite Swedish pop group! This is a city break where you are more likely to get a siesta after midday than a ‘Man After Midnight’, where the cheap cava and free tapas will loosen you up and make you feel like a ‘Dancing Queen’, and where your superb VeryChic offer will have you saving your ‘Money, Money, Money’. Puns aside, the Abba Granada was just the excuse I needed to continue my long-running love affair with Granada, and soon enough I was looking out from the Alhambra and swooning over the beauty of one of my favourite cities: “Mamma mia, here I go again, my my, how can I resist you?”

To this airport, direct flights with British Airways (BA) are available from London, otherwise, Vueling Airlines provide indirect flights from many cities across Europe with a stop-over, usually in Barcelona.

A little further away is the better served Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport, 130 km to the south-west in Malaga.

    - From the UK: Direct flights from London are provided by BA, Monarch, Ryanair and EasyJet. Between Monarch, EasyJet and Ryanair, flights can also be found from other cities such as Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol, Glasgow and Edinburgh, and Belfast.

    - From Ireland: Aer Lingus and Ryanair fly from Dublin and seasonally from Cork and Shannon.

    - From Germany: Air Berlin, Germanwings & EasyJet provide direct flights from Berlin. Between Norwegian, Ryanair and Vueling, flights can also be found from Hamburg, Cologne and Munich. Lufthansa also fly from Frankfurt and, along with Germanwings and Air Berlin, from Dusseldorf.

HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL

  • From the Granada Airport to the hotel:
    - By Taxi: Fares to the city centre are between 25€ and 30€ (around £18-£22), ask the driver for a quote in advance – if they ask for too much more than that, then they may be trying to extort money from you.

    - By Bus: The route, operated by J. Gonzalez buses, takes around 45 minutes and costs around 3€. Get off at the Avda Constitución (Hotel Maçia Condor) stop. From here it is a very easy 4 minute walk to the hotel. continue to walk northwest down Av. de la  Constitución until you see the hotel on the left.

From Malaga Airport to the hotel:
    - By Bus: Buses, operated by ALSA, depart from the airport direct to Granada bus station from outside the T3 arrivals building. The journey takes, depending on the bus, either 135 minutes or 150 minutes, costing 13.72€ or 11.43€ respectively. From there it is a very short walk to the hotel.
For more regular buses to Grenada, first take the airport bus A75 (that also leaves from outside T3 arrivals) to Malaga city centre, getting off at Malaga bus station Estación de Autobuses, tickets cost 3€. From there take one of the more regular ALSA buses, again to Granada bus station. Note that the last bus is usually at 9.30 pm.

    - By Car: This might be the most convenient way of reaching Granada; however, note that once you have arrived there is not much need of a car as everything in the city is within easy walking distance or reach by public transport.
Major car rental companies can be found at the arrivals of Terminals 2 and 3.
Once out of the airport, follow signs for Malaga onto the MA-21, and then Granada on to the MA-20.  Continue following the direction of Granada. As you approach the city, continue straight for Granada / avd. Andalucía. Keep going straight (down Av. de Andalucía) and over two roundabouts. The road leads into Av. de la Constitución and the hotel is just 350 metres further down this road on the right.
