Upon arriving in Bruges, we went for a stroll around town before checking in. The historic centre resembles a timeless dream, where charming squares lead to Gothic and medieval architecture. There is something fey and ethereal about it that hangs like a mist from the medieval spires and imbues itself into every cobbled street, every silent waterway. By the time we got to the Hotel Dukes’ Palace, we’d fallen completely head over heels.
It was just as wonderfully surreal approaching the palace. The Hotel Dukes’ Palace is elegantly imposing, with a tower remaining from the castle on which it was built. With the original features painstakingly preserved, the rooms speak of a kind of luxury pertaining only to a bygone era. Our room was breath-taking, flaunting a rich colour palette and a decadent over-sized marble bathtub.
Descending to the hotel's restaurant we felt quite euphoric and indulged in a lavish dinner. The service was warm and efficient, and the dining room juxtaposed 15th Century opulence with a modern elegance. By the time I returned to the office, I felt like a different woman; I can only thank The Hotel Dukes’ Palace and Bruges for their fairyland romance, putting a spring back in my step!

BY PLANE
• Ostend-Bruges International Airport (OST), or Ostend Airport, is about 33 km / 20 mi / 34 minutes' drive from the hotel, however the airport is little-served. Brussels National Airport (BRU), is about 12 km / 7.5 mi northeast of Brussels and about 110 km / 69 mi / 1 hour and 20 minutes' drive southeast of the hotel. Brussels-South Charleroi Airport (CRL), located between Brussels and Charleroi, is about 154 km / 96 mi / 1 hour and 45 minutes' drive southeast of the hotel.
Brussels National receives flights from many major cities across Europe, including the UK. Meanwhile, low-cost airlines in particular operate to Brussels-South Charleroi Airport.
From Brussels National Airport to Bruges:
• Train: trains run directly from Brussels National Airport to Bruges and take around 1 hour 30 minutes.From Brussels-South Charleroi Airport to Bruges:
• Bus/train: shuttle buses run once an hour every day to Brussels-Midi station, taking about 45 minutes. From here, trains operate to Bruges.
