The Marylebone Hotel ★★★★

A modern sanctuary in the heart of traditional London.

By Esme Fox, VeryChic correspondent
If you’ve always wanted to stay in one of London’s most sought-after postcodes, then here’s your chance. Set in the charming village-like district of Marylebone, in the very heart of London, The Marylebone Hotel is surrounded by fashionable boutiques, trendy wine bars and fine restaurants. At the bottom of the district lies the hustle and bustle of Bond Street and Oxford Street, with its designer flagship stores and high street shops; while at the top sprawls peaceful Regent’s Park, home to perfect picnic spots, a boating lake and of course London Zoo. Sandwiched in the middle is where you’ll find a whole host of attractions, including the famous Madame Tussauds Wax Work Museum and the Sherlock Holmes Museum. And the best part – they’re all within walking distance of the hotel!

  • If you’re missing your local pub back home, then don’t worry as Marylebone has a great one of its own. The Golden Eagle is a beautiful old pub and the perfect place to sit back with a pint. You can even imagine that this was the type of place that Arthur Conan Doyle used to come and write his loveable Sherlock Holmes stories. 59, Marylebone Lane
  • Just steps away from the hotel stands Wigmore Hall (www.wigmore-hall.org.uk) - one of the most elegant and least known of London's recital halls. Come to simply admire the interior decor or book to see a performance. 36, Wigmore Street
  • A farmer’s market is perhaps not something you’d expect from a central London location, but the Marylebone Farmer’s Market (www.lfm.org.uk/markets/marylebone) on Sunday mornings has an excellent reputation and offers some of the best organic produce around. It’s the perfect place to gather up some ingredients and head to nearby Regent’s Park to enjoy a picnic.
