By Melanie Webb, VeryChic correspondent

“How many times have you visited Paris?” He said with a knowing smile. “Many times,” we confidently replied. In fact, I have visited this fine city more times than I can remember; we almost pulled-off acting like true Parisians the last time we visited, almost. “Well, you evidently haven’t visited enough; you still have much to learn.” Like a wise writer that emerged from the Parisian streets, the receptionist summarised the aim of our little holiday. Like a river you can never step into the same Paris twice, things are constantly reforming, developing, changing yet Paris keeps its historic splendour with magnificent Haussmanien buildings, cobbled streets and hallowed landmarks. And the only place to stay in sophisticated Paris is in a sophisticated hotel, and this time Hyatt Paris Madeleine is on the list...

HOW TO GET THERE

PLANE

  • Paris is served by three main airports: Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), located 25 km / 16 mi to the northeast of Paris, Paris Orly (ORY), located 13 km / 8.1 mi south of Paris, and Paris Beauvais (BVA), around 85 km / 53 mi north of Paris (near the city of Beauvais).

Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris Orly receive flights from most capitals and major cities across Europe. Meanwhile, low-cost airlines (notably Ryanair), operate flights to Paris Beauvais from many cities across Europe.

HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORTS TO THE HOTEL

  • From Paris Charles de Gaulle airport:
    - By taxi: Taxis are easily found outside each terminal, be sure to take an officially licensed taxi from the rank. Fares vary depending on traffic, but expect to pay between 50 to 65 euros.

    - By train: This is generally the most cost-efficient method. The airport connects to the city via Line B of the RER; take the train to Châtelet Les Halles and switch to the metro system taking line M14 to Madeleine (see below for directions to the hotel). Tickets are 9.75€ or 6.85€ for children (4- 9).

    - By Bus: The Roissybus runs directly to Opéra in central Paris, tickets cost around 10 euros. Once at Opéra, take the Metro, line 8 for one stop to Madeleine. (see below for directions to the hotel)

    From Paris Orly airport:
    - By taxi: Taxis are easily found outside each terminal, make sure to take an officially licensed taxi from the rank. Fares vary depending on traffic, but expect to pay between 30 to 40 euros.

    - By train: The airport is connected to RER line B via the bus service Orlyval, which will drop you off at the RER station Anthony. Take the RER to Châtelet Les Halles and then switch to the Metro, line M14, to Madeleine (see below for directions to the hotel).

    From Paris-Beauvais airport:
    - By train: Take a taxi (around 11€) or shuttle bus (around 4€ per person) to Beauvais station, from which the TER line 19 runs to Paris Gare du Nord. From there take metro line M4 to Châtelet Les Halles, and then switch to line M14 to Madeleine (see below for directions to the hotel).

TRAIN

  • Most international trains arrive at either Paris Gare du Nord or Paris de l’Est. From either station, take metro line M4 to Châtelet Les Halles, and then switch to line M14 to Madeleine (see below for directions to the hotel).

Eurostar operate trains from London St. Pancras International to Paris Gare du Nord. Meanwhile Thalys operate fast trains from Dusseldorf and Cologne, while direct regular trains can be found from both cities also Frankfurt – trains from Germany terminate at either Paris Gare du Nord or Paris de l’Est. Thalys also run direct trains from Amsterdam and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, also to Paris Gare du Nord. The French TGV operate fast trains from all over France and some other neighbouring countries.

METRO

  • The nearest metro station is Madeleine served by lines M8, M12, M14, about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Out of the station turn right and walk up Place de Madeleine, the Madeleine Church should be on your left. At the end of the road turn left and walk past the Madeleine, all the time keeping it on your left. Take the second right onto Rue Chauveau Lagarde and then the third right onto Boulevard Malesherbes. Walk down the road and the hotel will be on your right.
