  • Old World Books is a treasure trove of books on Venice and Italy, as well as English-language books. Nestled away in the old Jewish Quarter and run by an ex-pat, the air is thick with that literati sophistication. Sestiere Cannaregio, 30121 Venice, Italy.
  • Carampane Restaurant emblazons the reassuring warning: “no pasta, no lasagne, no menù Turistico” on its front door. This is a seafood restaurant, closed on the fishermen's days off (Sunday and Monday). Located in the heart of tourist-ville, very close to Rialto Bridge, it's a fantastic yet authentic and unspoilt restaurant. www.antichecarampane.com
