Hilton Diagonal Mar Barcelona ★★★★

Reliable Hilton quality by the beach and shopping centre in Barcelona!

By Vivien Fox, VeryChic correspondent
Barcelona is one of the epic cities of Europe; once you have fallen in love with it, the story goes on for ever. We had visited as starry-eyed students, indulged in long romantic weekends with our partners … now it was time to introduce my niece to the ever-fresh delights of Gaudi’s magical city. She, a Barcelona virgin, was initially more interested in the beach, while my sister was looking rather for shopping opportunities… Hey presto! The Hilton Diagonal Mar **** set the perfect scene for the latest episode of our epic Barcelona love affair.

BY PLANE

  • Barcelona is served mainly by Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN), found just 12 km (7.5 mi) southwest of the city centre.

The airport is well served by flights from capitals and large cities all across Europe. Many airlines operate to and from Barcelona-El Prat, however, it acts a main base for Vueling, and as a hub for Iberia, Air Europa, Ryanair, and Norwegian Air Shuttle.

We recommend flying to Barcelona-El Prat Airport as it is much closer and more convenient for reaching the city centre. However, low-cost airlines (most notably Ryanair) fly from a number of European destinations to Girona–Costa Brava Airport (GRO), located around 100km north of Barcelona. Some low-cost airlines, mostly from the UK and Ireland, also fly to Reus Airport (REU), located around 100 km (62 mi) southwest of Barcelona.

HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL

  • Getting to the hotel from Barcelona-El Prat airport:
    - By taxi: Found outside all of the main terminal exits and operating all night, a taxi takes 20 to 30 minutes to the city (depending on traffic) and costs about €25 from T2 and €30 from T1 (a little further) with surcharges for luggage. Be sure to take an official, black and yellow, taxi.

    - By train: The cheapest and fastest way of getting to and from the airport. Trains run roughly every 30 minutes to Barcelona, taking around 25 minutes. A single airport ticket costs more than a regular single and is not necessarily the best option. Possibly the most cost-efficient, especially if you plan on using public transport during your stay, is the T10. At just under €10, it is valid for 10 journeys (including the airport zone) with no expiry date. It can also be shared by more than one person at a time and works on trains, buses and trams.

    - By bus: Aerobus run express buses between the airport and city centre. Tickets are €5.90 for a single and €10.20 return. Get off at Plaça Espanya. And then take the metro or a short taxi ride.

  • The metro station El Marseme Fòrum (line 4, yellow) is just 600 metres from the hotel.
