A friend of ours was exhibiting some artwork in Lisbon, and my husband and I suddenly decided we just had to go to show our support, despite missing many of her shows in London. After attending the event we followed in the footsteps of many Lisboêtas taking a weekend break, and headed to the sandy playground and picturesque fishing village of Cascais. The Pestana Cidadela de Cascais ***** had been recommended to us, and as we settled into our room overlooking the harbour, we understood why.

It's actually a small but interesting museum, with some beautiful paintings, and views that can inspire them. They also serve good tapas to allow you to sit and linger for longer.   • Cafe Galeria House of Wonders is the flamboyant and fitting title of this unique gallery and café. The gallery is a place you can go and browse locally made art and crafts, and in the rooftop café you can while time away in a great atmosphere over yummy food.   • Hemingway Cascais is the place to go to for a cocktail and some seriously special cuisine in a refined atmosphere worthy of its allusion to Mr Hemingway. The décor is pretty suave too. www.hemingwaycascais.com.

BY PLANE

  • Lisbon Airport is around 40 km from the hotel and is served regularly by major European airlines.

GET TO THE HOTEL
