A holiday here in the Algarve, is in many ways, to rub shoulders with the stars. A whole host of them have chosen to make this sun soaked heaven their home, while many more are regular visitors to the area, including Bonnie Tyler, Steven Gerrard, and Prince William! If it's good enough for pop and football royalty, not to mention genuine future kings, it'll do me nicely. So what is it that makes this place so sought-after? Something to do with its unmatched beauty and tranquillity, I'd imagine, set off to perfection by excellent hotels like the Vidamar Algarve Hotel.
Vida: Life is beautiful. Mar: The sea is calling. Clearly the Vidamar Resort didn't have to work too hard to find itself a pretty epithet. It's just as well really, as hard work is exactly what I was looking to avoid when I pitched up here with the kids and grandkids in tow, following in the steps of many a celebrity! Sun, sea, and a veritable selection box of gold courses to keep the gentlemen happy - the Vidamar Algarve Hotel has everything I could want (everything any of us could want) for a restful dream holiday.
The Algarve's quieter spaces reveal a paradise for any connoisseur of sensual pleasures. Here you will be strolling along nature reserves on cliffs flecked with golden sunlight and sand stretching out of sight, all under a sun that shines almost all year round. It's the very same sun that wakes me each day by sneaking through the window of our sea view room. I sip my coffee on the balcony, savouring every roasted note and admire the views across the natural landscape. Now this, I think to myself, is bliss.
After sending the little ones off to the Kids Club, we make the most of the tranquil pauses by indulging in the hotel's luxury spa, which is only for over-16s to guarantee peace and quiet. It has a hot tub, steam room, heated pool and sauna... and that's before you even try the facials, manicures and the menu - yes menu! - of massages. If there were ever a way to feel like a VIP for the day, this is it.
Of course, there are other days when we take the hire car and venture out of this peaceful oasis to explore the natural wonders of the region. Even if we've spent the morning or afternoon relaxing, we're still weary as we retreat gratefully into our welcoming cocoon again, excited for the sun to rise over another fabulous day at the Vidamar Resort, where days unfold in a parade of perfectly balanced relaxation and enjoyment!

BY PLANE
Faro Airport (FAO) sits about 4km / 2.5mi west of Faro in the Algarve, around 50km (45 minutes') drive from the hotel. It is a fairly well served international airport which receives flights, regular and seasonal, from many capitals and major cities across Europe, including from the UK. Alternatively, even better served Lisbon Airport (LIS) is located around a 2 and a half hour drive to the north.
From the airport to the hotel:
• Transfer service: there are many transfer companies that operate from the airport to the surrounding area. It is a good idea to book a transfer service in advance (rather than take a taxi upon arrival).
• Car: we recommend renting a car, as it will be far easier to get around and to explore this wonderful region. Major car rental companies are available at the airport, but be sure to book in advance, especially in summer!
