Martin's Château du Lac ★★★★★

A fairytale chateau and five-star luxury within half an hour of Brussels.

By Jo Weston, VeryChic correspondant
Less than half an hour from Brussels, is the fantastic five-star Martin's Château du Lac. Built in 1906, in the Belle Epoque period when the area became a fashionable weekend retreat for the Brussels elite. Originally a health resort, taking advantage of the health-enhancing waters from the nearby springs, it is now a luxury lakeside hotel. The delightful setting, superb facilities and perfect location near Brussels make this an ideal holiday destination for whether a luxurious long weekend away or a longer holiday.

Martin's Château du Lac ***** is located in one of Belgium’s most beautiful regions: Walloon Brabant. The hotel overlooks Lake Genval and is located only 20 minutes from Brussels.

  • Brussels National Airport (BRU) is the main airport, located around 12 km / 7.5 mi northeast of Brussels centre, while Brussels-South Charleroi Airport (CRL) is located near Charleroi, around 46 km / 29 mi south of Brussels. Brussels National receives flights from many major cities across Europe, including the UK. Meanwhile, low-cost airlines in particular operate to Brussels-South Charleroi Airport.

    From Brussels National Airport:
Licensed taxis can by recognised by the blue and yellow emblem and should take around 20-30 minutes to reach the city centre of Brussels and 30 minutes to reach the hotel. Alternatively, take the train to Bruxelles-Nord station, and from there, the S8 train to Genval (direction Ottignies), 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.

    From Brussels-South Charleroi Airport:
A taxi drive to the hotel takes about 1 hour, and can be cost-efficient if shared between four passengers. Alternatively, shuttle buses run once an hour every day to Brussels-Midi station, from there, take the S8 train to Genval (direction Ottignies), 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.

  • Brussels is easily accessible by train. Most high-speed international trains arrive at Brussels-South railway station (French: Gare de Bruxelles Midi / Dutch: Station Brussel-Zuid). It is therefore possible to reach Brussels by train rapidly from a number of neighbouring countries including the UK, France, Germany and the Netherlands, for example Paris in about 1 hour and 30 minutes, or London, Amsterdam and Cologne in 1 hour and 50 minutes.

From Brussels-Midi Station, take the S8 train to Genval (direction of Ottignies), 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.
