Palazzo Montemartini ★★★★★

Luxury, history and relaxation, right in the heart of Rome.

By Edward Fairbairn, VeryChic correspondent
Veni, vidi, vici. So said Julius Caesar, one of the most notable figures and famous leaders of Ancient Rome: ‘I came, I saw, I conquered’. Over two thousand years after these legendary words were first written, I arrived in the great city of Rome – I came, I saw, and I was conquered. Conquered by the elegance of the Palazzo Montemartini, its grand 19th century façade overlooking the ancient Baths of Diocletian. Conquered by the stunning blend of classic and contemporary that you would scarcely believe could be hidden within such a traditional looking building. Conquered by the overwhelming sensation of peace that I discovered in this palace, somehow remaining a blissful oasis right in the centre of one of the busiest and most fascinating cities in the world. As another famous Roman, Virgil, put it: ‘love conquers all’, and I was most certainly in love with the Palazzo Montemartini.
