Hôtel D ★★★★

Our drive to Strasbourg was atmospheric, watching the green fields go by I grew more and more excited as we neared the city. It is contrast and contradiction that surrounds Strasbourg. However, it works well here to say that opposites attract, and more than that, this contradiction has worked in wonderful cooperation. An example? How, past the antique, wooden beamed houses can be the glassy and glossy buildings of the EU and the defiantly ultra-modern Hotel D.

At the reception, my husband dealt with the check-in as I glanced around. I spotted an eclectic red staircase and other quirky details which reflected this quirky city. The reception is contemporary yet warm and welcoming, the soft red and grey are inviting and subtle floral patterns add character. The staff are also welcoming, ready to inform us on any question we had about our stay and the Alsace region.

We were accompanied to our Deluxe room which was delightful. Big block colours were painted in curly shapes, combined modern design and classic Alsatian patterns. No detail was left untouched; I loved the jogging map in the room that suggested some great routes, what a great way to get a feel for the city! This four-star hotel provided a room that came with all the five-star amenities, including a LED TV that was of excellent high quality. After a long journey we decided to relax with some television which soon turned into a little nap on the large and comfortable bed. We awoke revitalised and freshened up before enquiring at the hotel for a good restaurant recommendation for the evening.

The next morning we woke up to a plentiful and colourful breakfast; it was a delicious start to the day. The restaurant’s decor takes the traditional timber beams of Alsatian houses and arranges them in haphazard formation to give the room a modern, design twist. With satisfied stomachs we headed out to the magnificent Gothic Cathedral of Strasbourg. After our short, but sweet ten minute walk, we stood staring for another ten minutes straight at this phenomenon. The cathedral is a truly mesmerising sight, the gothic patterns, imposing doors and elaborate overall design is breathtaking, and we made sure to climb the cathedral tower for astonishing view of the city below. The rest of the day was filled with strolls along winding streets, marvelling at the pretty Petite France and munching on flammekeuche after flammekeuche in delicious delight.

After our tiring day, the Hotel D was there to happily greet us, and our happy faces lit up with the sight of our comfy room. Tomorrow we would definitely take some time-out to enjoy the sauna and maybe even an indulgent massage...

With the hotel's defiant design, delightful Deluxe Room and delicious breakfast, I will definitely be coming back!
