Farol Hotel ★★★★★

Supported first by fishing and then by seaside tourism, Cascais can consider the ocean to be an absolutely crucial part of its culture, heritage and lifestyle, which is reflected by the Farol Design hotel. On occasion, it feels like the hotel is literally ‘on the water’, its terraces and balconies enjoying unblemished ocean views and almost even overhanging the Atlantic.

The building, perched atop the rock face, is an old 19th century mansion, once home to the Count of Cabral. Sleek, chic and stylish, the design is what makes the interior of the hotel so inviting. The design flows seamlessly and fluidly throughout, the use of a simple and elegant black and white colour scheme allowing every space to feel as if it belongs with the others. In the room, the furnishings and décor are refined with just a splash of colour, also equipped with a long list of luxuries, including a large window overlooking the beautiful Atlantic water to take pride of place.

In the Mix Restaurant, Portuguese cuisine is a delight to behold. Yet he is not the only culinary master here. Like many fashionable hotels these days, the Farol boasts a dedicated sushi and sashimi restaurant, and a traditional British afternoon tea, complete with fragrant tea, sparkling wine, finger sandwiches and supremely fresh homemade scones and cakes. If you are merely out to quench your thirst rather than satisfy your stomach, there is the Farol Bar, a sophisticated environment for a cocktail at any time of the day; or alternatively, there is the Bar On The Rocks, an outdoor space to lounge by the pool, sip on a refreshing drink and listen to the sounds of the soothing music and the Atlantic waves gently breaking against the rocks below.
