Font Mourier ★★★★

Elegant is a word that’s thrown around a lot but, in the instance of the French Riviera, it is the perfect fit. Nothing describes the celeb-riddled beaches, the luxury nightlife, and the exquisite dipping and soaring scenery better than elegant. And an A-list destination it certainly is, defined by soft, golden sands, clear, turquoise waters, and eternal blue skies.

I was staying at the Font Mourier, a hotel that is also personified by the word elegant. It slips right into the Riviera way of life, with its sleek, white design and refreshing décor. Surrounded by immaculate pine forests, it is a haven for exploring the exquisite scenery that first brought interest to the area many years ago. The beach is free of prying paparazzi, and is instead filled with jutting rocks, colourful shells, and miles of golden sands that reach out to the gently lapping waves of the Mediterranean Sea.

Inside the Font Mourier, the sleek and secluded vibe continues, with crisp white walls dominating the interior, adding to the refreshing, elegant theme. I instantly fell in love with the pool terrace and spent many an hour sipping champagne and relaxing under the vibrantly blue sky. But it was the breakfast that made me feel like I’d hit the big time; rows and rows of fresh produce, sweet homemade jams, and juicy colourful fruits would set anyone up for a life of luxury, and I jumped on the opportunity with both hands.

Certain parts of the French Riviera have made a name for themselves as playgrounds for the rich and famous, but nothing can detract from the amazing scenery that is on offer. There is nowhere where the sand is quite as soft and white and nowhere where the sea is quite so sparkly and clear. Hotel Font Mourier is a prime example, providing all the spectacular scenery of the Riviera, all the high-end luxury, and all the experiences, but without the crowds. It’s an elegant retreat that has French Riviera written all over it, so don those dark glasses, grab a glass of champagne, and enjoy living the high life!
