If you don’t feel like cooking a proper meal every day during your break, you won’t have to go far to find an excellent dining venue as the Vintage Garden restaurant is situated just downstairs. It’s a dreamy and romantic venue with swathes and soft fabric and twinkly lighting. Bare brick walls are exposed inside, while in the conservatory-like outdoor space, flamboyant chandeliers hang from the glass roof panels.

And just like home, if you want to go out and explore your city, then grab a bicycle from those available and get going. You’ll find there’s so much to discover in this fascinating city, from the majestic Hungarian Parliament Building to the imposing Buda Castle standing atop a hill looking over the city. It’s a city for all seasons, where you can amble along the Danube and explore the old streets and outdoor cafes of Buda in the summer and revel in the its festive Christmas spirit in winter.

Of course no trip to Budapest would be complete without a visit to a thermal bath – after all it is known as the ‘City of Spas’. One of the best and most famous is the Szechenyi Baths – the largest medicinal baths in Europe. The bright yellow Neo-baroque building is a sight to behold in itself, but step inside and you’ll find a maze of rooms with over 18 different pools of varying sizes and temperatures. There are also a number of saunas and steam rooms to navigate. The best pools are the ones outside where you can watch the stars from the warmth of the bubbling water, while the night frosts around you. Make sure to keep a look out for the locals who very often play chess in the spa itself.
