Exceptional
9.5 /10
By Esme Fox, VeryChic correspondent
‘Paris of the East’, ‘Eastern Europe's most beautiful capital’ and ‘City of Spas’ are just some of the names that Hungary’s remarkable capital city has been called. Intersected by the graceful River Danube, Budapest is actually made up of two cities – the older western part with its narrow streets, commanding castle and colourful timber houses – Buda; and the newer eastern half, home to impressive Parisian-style architecture – Pest. It’s a destination that makes for the perfect city break, with plenty of history, culture and striking sights. For a unique way to experience the paprika-fuelled capital, try discovering it like a local – from the base of your very own stylish city apartment. Set in a central location, close to many of Budapest’s main sights, you’ll find exactly this – the Heritage Home Apartments.

Chic idea: to make the most of your time in Budapest, book your tickets in advance for a wide range of activities, here.

To get your hands on some of these treats, head to one of the city’s most famous cafes – the Gerbeaud. It’s a treat for the eyes as well as the stomach with glistening marble pillars and sparkly glass cases filled with decadent cakes, strudels and confectionary. Vörösmarty tér 7-8
