Perched on a peninsula and surrounded by the waters of Lake Garda, Sirmione has always been a favourite among the wealthy families of Verona. The opera singer Maria Callas owned a villa here and, historically, the romans were also great admirers. Cesar and Virgil both came to stay. Intrigued by its fascinating geography and history, I set off to see Sirmione for myself. We stayed at the Hotel Olivi Thermae & Natural Spa ****, a hotel that truly lives up to its privileged setting.

The Hotel Olivi Thermae & Natural Spa **** is situated in Sirmione, a small commune in the province of Brescia in Lombardy. The hotel is found on the banks of Lake Garda.

BY PLANE

  • The closest airport is Verona Villafranca Airport, located around 10 km (6 mi) southwest of Verona, and around 35km from the the hotel (around 35 minutes' drive). The airport is served by a number of flights from major cities across Europe. Many flights are seasonal, however, and you may need to fly indirect, for example via Rome.

    You may also fly to Bergamo Airport located 90 kilometres from the hotel (around 1 hours' drive away).

HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORTS TO THE HOTEL

  • It is possible to arrange in advance with the hotel for a transfer service from/to Verona Airport at a rate of 80€ each way, or Bergamo Airport at a rate of 160€ each way (3 people maximum per car).
