The Maritime Hotel ★★★★

Nautical charm and sumptuous luxury at this hot New York spot.

By Siena Morrell, VeryChic correspondent
Very much at home in one of New York’s hippest neighbourhoods, the Maritime is a boutique design hotel that is quickly becoming one of the hottest places to be seen for New York’s nocturnal crowd. With two restaurants, a charming private courtyard lined with Magnolia trees and atmospheric suspended lighting, and a high standard of service unusual in a style-conscious design hotel. Inspired by luxurious yacht cabins, with dark teak and shades of blue, the bedrooms are almost all identical; similarly, whether you’re Ben Ainslie or a mere landlubber, every guest is treated with the same utmost personal care by smiling staff.

  • Can’t be bothered to wait in line for a cronut? Dominique Ansel’s instant sell-out became the most stylish food of 2013. But, honestly, it’s not worth wasting a day for. Instead, aim for the positively old-school Donut Plant, which has been crafting creative donuts since 1994. http://doughnutplant.com/ - 220, West 23rd Street, between 7th & 8th Avenues
