Palais Faraj Suites & Spa ★★★★★

Palatial opulence in the cultural capital of Morocco

By Amy Turner, VeryChic correspondent
A lifelong devotee of the Red City of Marrakech, and fervent admirer of topsy-turvy Tangiers, somehow I'd never quite made it to Morocco's cultural core, the ancient university city of Fez. It hadn’tcrossed my minduntil a brief conversation with a Moroccan colleague made me wonder what I could have been missing. A city free of cars, home to the oldest university in the world, a reputation for historic opulence, the motherland of Morocco's elite... How could I have been so blind? I packed my bags and set my compass for the Palais Faraj, an authentic Moroccan palace on par with the best hotels anywhere in the world.

BY PLANE

  • Fez is served by Fez–Saïss Airport, however few airlines operate direct flights. In most cases, you will need to take a connecting flight, via cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Pisa and Brussels-Charleroi. Below are the some flight options (mostly by Ryanair):

    - From the UK: London-Stansted is the only airport in the UK directly connected to Fez, flights are operated by Ryanair. If flying from Edinburgh, Ryanair flies through Barcelona and Madrid. From Glasgow, the best option would be a layover in London, Barcelona or Pisa.

    - From Ireland: Flying from Dublin, a layover in Barcelona, London-Stansted, Brussels-Charleroi or Madrid are good options, with flights being operated by Ryanair, Aer Lingus and Jetair Fly.

    - From Germany: Frankfurt-Hahn is the only airport with direct flights to Fez, operated by Ryanair. Connecting flights are required if flying from other German cities.

    - From the Netherlands: Ryanair operates direct flights from Eindhoven.

    - From Sweden, Finland, Norway and Copenhagen: there are currently no flights from these countries, so flying from Madrid or Barcelona are good options.

    - From France: Flights from Paris-Orly are operated by Royal Air Maroc, and seasonally by Transavia. Montpellier is connected by Air Arabia Maroc, and Ryanair flies from Beauvais, Marseille, Nantes, Nîmes and Saint-Etienne.
