After a long-haul flight, arriving at the hotel’s reception was a dream turned reality: with a carefully considered aesthetic details and a warm, attentive welcome by grinning staff, this resort is a haven of tranquil relaxation. We were led to our sea-view Savoy Suite, where I ignored almost completely the stunning interior design in favour of the view from our vast private terrace. Beyond the glittering pool, the largest in the Seychelles, was the pristine Beau Vallon beach and the crystal-clear, tepid waters of the Indian Ocean. Once I was satisfied soaking up the sun on our terrace, I retreated into our generously proportioned suite to join my partner in the almost-obligatory hotel-room-snoop which heralds the start of any of our vacations together.
Decorated primarily in cool, calming neutrals, the rooms are a blissful respite from the tropical climate outdoors. We discovered two fluffy robes hanging in our walk-in wardrobe, and then sampled the delectable miniatures in our cavernous, light-filled bathroom. Boasting twin sinks, a walk-in rain shower almost the same size as my entire bathroom at home, and a deep tub perfect for soaking à deux; and equipped with all the necessities, the room meets every luxurious and practical requirement a guest could have.
One of the major assets of this elegant, extravagant resort is its chic, contemporary spa. An enormous range of both relaxing and aesthetic treatments are available: I opted for the all-encompassing ‘Fire’ treatment, and for two hours I was steamed, scrubbed and pulled every which way by a Thai masseuse whose strength defied her diminutive size. Relaxed and rejuvenated, and glowing after my facial, I floated out of the spa to meet my partner at afternoon tea. While he regaled his adventure of a run along the beach, we tucked into delicious cakes and pastries with local flavours, as well as more familiar traditional English and French fare.
After an indulgent lunch on our last day, we took to the beach for one last time. Burying our toes in the soft white sand as fishermen dragged in their catch of the day, we lay back against the white-cushioned loungers and attempted to prolong this dream-like holiday, lulled by the sounds of the surf. Simply bliss...
