View all offersA weekend in Brussels doesn’t quite generate the same impression as, say, a romantic trip to Prague or lounging on the beaches of the Algarve: or, at least, that was the case when I suggested it to my partner. Nevertheless, from excellent food to a rich historical culture, Brussels has something for everyone. We were pleasantly surprised by the city, though we got exactly what we expected at the Warwick Brussels: five-star service by friendly and attentive staff and luxurious comfort in a large, elegant room.
The rooms are flooded with light, but sheer curtains and warm neutral walls give the suite a relaxed, intimate atmosphere, making it a charming respite from the dynamic city outside. The bed was large and inviting and the décor Traditional, but not stuffy, I think to myself. Meanshile the bathroom is contemporary.
After freshening up and changing out of clothes crumpled from our train journey, we venture out into the early evening. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the capital, close to the stunning ornate buildings that surround Grand Place, the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula, and the somewhat inexplicable attraction of Manneken Pis.
As the sun set and an evening chill set in, we returned to the welcoming warmth of our hotel and aimed for the restaurant, Chutney’s. Opulent interiors and rich wood panelling make it a cosy, inviting space. With its excellent service and quiet atmosphere, the restaurant was good; we were even more impressed with the Waterloo Bar, which, livelier than the restaurant, was a charming spot for a nightcap, before we retreated to our room upstairs.
This became our regular timetable for our little weekend getaway, planning ventures to shops and to restaurants, enjoying leisurely mornings in our large suite, and exploring Brussels, which unquestionably proved it offers much more than meets the eye. Having just come back from a weekend at the five-star Warwick Brussels, I can only assume that the oft-overlooked city is merely being kept a secret.
