Arles you looking for a Provençal retreat to sweep you off your feet?

By Rhona Pearce, VeryChic correspondent
Arles is famous for its Roman history, considered the second largest centre for Roman architecture and artefacts after Rome itself; it is littered with ancient monuments, several of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Yet for every crumbing pillar and antique archway there is a row of picturesque houses with faded, gaily coloured façades, there's a hidden stairway up a side street to a secret, stunning view, or a little cobbled square with a gorgeous French café. For it is a quintessential Provençal town and comes as no surprise that Van Gogh spent two years living here, inspired by the light to create some of his most celebrated works. If you want to savour the delights of languid Southern France, there is a unique, exquisite hotel that embodies the soul of Provençal charm: L'Hôtel Particulier.
