Sozo Hotel ★★★★

Spacious contemporary hotel in the walls of an old chapel.

By Lizzie Davey, VeryChic correspondent
The ongoing argument about whether Nantes is a part of Brittany still rages on, but the city has continued to thrive, sidestepping numerous other French towns that have challenged its cool, cultural vibe. It retains the French charm of Brittany, though has its own character and has become an arty hub of design, music, and history in its own right – boasting rustic architecture and picturesque scenery. I checked into the Sozo Hotel, a renovated chapel that embodies Nantes’ new outlook. The modern, spacious design features elements of the building’s past, including stained-glass windows and high ceilings. Best of all, it’s located in the heart of the city, just moments from the Château des Ducs de Bretagne and the Jardin des Plantes.
