A sleek and stylish retreat in Italy's largest spa town

Exceptional
10 /10
By Esme Fox, VeryChic correspondent
Located among the rolling hills and olive groves of Tuscany, in between Florence and the Italian coast, sits the charming town of Montecatini Terme. The town has just 21,000 residents, but attracts a staggering two million visitors every year. Why? Because this is Italy’s biggest and most important spa town. People began building baths in the town as far back as 1530 in order to benefit from the waters here, but the main spas that still remain today were built around the late 1700s. Montecatini is both refined and sophisticated with its wide plazas and elegant architecture, built in the style of France’s Bell Époque and the Art Nouveau movement. If you want a taste of this Art Nouveau style, blended with modern chic, then the newly opened Hotel Montecatini Palace could be just the place.
